Michael Jackson was being lined up to play the title role in a Hollywood version of Doctor Who, a new book claims.

According to The Times, Now On The Big Screen: The Unofficial And Unauthorised Guide To Doctor Who At The Cinema details the numerous unsuccessful attempts to make a Doctor Who film through the programme's history. In one chapter, its author Charles Norton claims that Jackson was the preferred choice for a lead role in a big screen version of the BBC TV show by Paramount bosses in 1988, off the back of his film Moonwalker. Apparently, Bill Cosby was also in mind for the role had Jackson declined the offer.

Meanwhile, the estate of Michael Jackson will release two huge new compilation albums via iTunes. As many as 270 tracks featuring full albums, demos, extras and live performances will be available in two separate collections. The first one, 'The Indispensable Collection' (priced at £45) features all of Jackson's solo albums ('Off The Wall', 'Thriller', 'Bad', 'Dangerous', 'HIStory - Past, Present and Future Book 1', the 'Blood on the Dancefloor' remix compilation and 'Invincible'), which have been mastered for iTunes, as well as the 16-track 1988 'Live at Wembley' collection.
