Michael Jackson hologram performs at the Billboard Music Awards - watch

A hologram of the deceased musician appeared at last night's ceremony in Las Vegas

A Michael Jackson hologram appeared at the Billboard Music Awards last night (May 18) in Las Vegas.

The hologram was 'wearing' a white and gold jacket and red trousers and performed the song 'Slave to the Rhythm' from the late singer's current posthumous album 'Xscape'. Click above to watch the performance.

The performance was supposed to be a secret, but a ruling by a federal judge which rejected a lawsuit from hologram companies Hologram USA Inc and Musion Das Hologram Ltd - who made the Tupac hologram at 2012's Coachella Festival and hoped to stop the performance - made the news of the event public prior to the awards show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. 'Xscape' went straight to Number One in the UK last night.

Winners at last night's Billboard Music Awards included Justin Timberlake who won Top Artist, Top Male Artist and Top R&B Artist as well as Lorde, who was named Top New Artist and Katy Perry, who won Top Female Artist. Imagine Dragons were named Top Duo/Group and Top Rock Artist. Top Rap Artist was Eminem and Top Dance/Electronic Artist was Daft Punk.

Robin Thicke Featuring T.I. & Pharrell's 'Blurred Lines' won a host of song awards, including Top Hot 100 Song, Top Digital Song, Top Radio Song and Top R&B Song. Top Rock Song was named as Lorde's 'Royals' and Top Rap Song was Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Featuring Ray Dalton's 'Can't Hold Us'.
