Miles Kane has revealed that he turned down the lead role of John Lennon in the 2009 film hit Nowhere Boy, which tells the story of the Beatles man's early years in Liverpool.

The part eventually went to Kick Ass star Aaron Johnson but, as Kane reveals in this week's NME, it was originally offered to the Wirral-born singer-songwriter.

Kane said: "You know that film Nowhere Boy? I got asked to be Lennon in that. [Director] Sam Taylor-Wood came to a gig when we did the [Last Shadow] Puppets, but I knocked it back because I'm a singer and a guitarist. If I did something like that then I'd have fucked my career up… I could be Kick Ass!"

Kane, who is this week's NME cover star, will tour the UK in October. Starting off in Portsmouth on September 26, the tour will also visit Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Hull and more, with the run of shows coming to an end at London O2 Academy Brixton on October 11. Tickets go on general sale May 31 at 9am (BST).

The dates will support Kane’s forthcoming new album, 'Don't Forget Who You Are', which will be released on June 3. It was produced by The Lightning Seeds frontman Ian Broudie, who has previously worked with The Zutons and Echo And The Bunnymen. The album is currently streaming exclusively at NME.COM.
