A college in America is offering students a class in 'The Sociology of Miley Cyrus.'

Skidmore College, a private liberal arts school in New York, is to offer the course, which will be taught by Carolyn Chernoff, Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology, reports Complex. The class description explains that the course uses Miley Cyrus to explore themes of race, gender, and identity in the media.

A breakdown of the course explains that the students will study topics including, "gender stratification and the hyper-commodification of childhood", "what happens to Disney stars as they age?" and "bisexuality, queerness, and the female body" among others.

Earlier this year it was reported that a US university is offering a similar course in Beyoncé. The class at Rutgers University, New Jersey, is called 'Politicizing Beyoncé' and will explore explore American race, gender and sexual politics through the pop star's music and career.

Course topics include discussion around whether Beyoncé has control over her own aesthetic, whether her body is empowered or stereotypical, and her alter ego, 'Sasha Fierce'.
