A Scottish indie band have had an unlikely spotlight focused on them following an incident in a football match between Chelsea and Swansea on Wednesday night (January 23).

Ballboy, who hail from Edinburgh, found their name trending on Twitter after an incident in the Capital One cup semi-final second leg. Chelsea player Eden Hazard was given a red card for kicking a ballboy in the ribs when he refused to give him the ball back in adequate time.

Reacting to the news, Ballboy made numerous jokes about what had happened via their own Twitter, writing: "So, after all these albums and hard work, turns out I just needed to let a #cfc player boot me in the ribs to get trending." The band went on to joke that Hazard was merely distracting attention away from something worse that fellow Chelsea player John Terry was doing elsewhere on the pitch. They also joked they would record a tribute single for the 17 year-old who was kicked.

The incident occurred when Hazard was attempting to retrieve the ball from under Charlie Morgan, the teenage son of Swansea City director Martin Morgan, who had jumped on top of it in an apparent bid to waste time during the game. A police investigation was launched following the match but Swansea have already confirmed Morgan will not be pursuing the incident with the police.

Morgan was invited into the Chelsea dressing room after the game where he and Hazard shook hands and each apologised to one another. "The boy put his whole body on to the ball and I was just trying to kick the ball," Hazard said in a statement. "I think I kicked the ball and not the boy. I apologise."

Ballboy formed in the late '90s and released five albums, including most recent album 'I Worked On The Ships' in 2008. The band reformed in 2012 and played their first gig in nearly two years at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus in December.
