Rick Ross has hired an armed 24-hour security team after surviving a drive-by shooting attempt, according to reports.

Earlier this week (January 28), it was reported that the rapper had been driving his silver Rolls Royce in Miami when he heard shots being fired in his direction. Riding with Ross was another passenger, Shateria L Moragne-el, who is said to be dating the artist. Neither was injured, though buildings were hit by the gunfire and Ross's car crashed after swerving the bullets.

TMZ now says that Ross, who had been at the LIV nightclub before the incident celebrating his birthday, has ramped up his private security following the incident. The rapper had already been using armed security during gigs and public appearances, but has apparently now decided he wants a full-time security detail.

They also claim that he had received several threats recently but had not paid them much attention, but had now been forced to take them more seriously as he considers the shooting attempt to be an "eye-opener".

Earlier this month (January 1), Rick Ross announced that his new album, which will be titled 'Mastermind', is due for release later this year. No specific release date has been given for the LP, which is the follow-up to his 2010 effort 'God Forgives, I Don't', but you can watch a trailer for the album by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.
