Unsound Festival in Poland has banned punters from using cameras at this year's event.

Festival organisers have declared that cameras and other recording devices will not be allowed at this year's bash, which takes place in Krakow from October 13 – October 20. Speaking about their decision on their official website, they said: "Unsound is imposing a ban on photographs and filming of live shows as part of its 2013 INTERFERENCE theme – no photo passes will be given to media, and audience members should resist the temptation to put cameras or mobile phones into action."

"The idea behind this ban is not to denigrate photographers or cast aspersions upon the desire to take snapshots of one's own life," they continued. "But rather an experiment in resisting contemporary habits as they pertain to instant documentation, 'sharing', and lived experience."

This year's Unsound Festival will feature performances from the likes of Juliana Barwick, Forest Swords and Mykki Blanco. For more information, see Unsound.pl.

An increasing number of musicians and artists have sought to prohibit fans from using devices such as smartphones at gigs. Yeah Yeah Yeahs asked fans to refrain from recording their gig at New York in April, with singer Karen O telling fans to "put that shit away" in reference to their cameras, while British band Savages also issued a similar notice to gig-goers at a Seattle gig during the same month. "OUR GOAL IS TO DISCOVER BETTER WAYS OF LIVING AND EXPERIENCING MUSIC," it read. "WE BELIEVE THAT THE USE OF PHONES TO FILM AND TAKE PICTURES DURING A GIG PREVENTS ALL OF US FROM TOTALLY IMMERSING OURSELVES. LET'S MAKE THIS EVENING SPECIAL. SILENCE YOUR PHONES."
