Morrissey is to sign a new record deal imminently, which will see him release a new studio album in 2008 as well as a Greatest Hits set, which will feature two new songs.
The singer is also set to announce details of a new tour for January 2008.
The revelations came from Morrissey’s manager, Merck Mercuriadis, who was speaking to Billboard.
“He'll be back out in January,” Mercuriadis said. “We'll take a short break and then start again in March.
“He loves to play off the beaten track. It's also what allows him to continue going for 18 months. Everything is a fresh experience.”
Morrissey is yet to announce which record label he is to sign with, although he had previously revealed that Warners had offered him a deal.
