Representatives of Los Angeles' Staples Center have denied claims that the venue will be 'going vegetarian' for the night of Morrissey's upcoming show.

The former frontman of The Smiths is set to perform at the arena on March 1 and it was previously reported that the venue had agreed to close the McDonald's concession in the venue and halt the sale of all meat products for the day of the performance on the famous animal rights activist's request.

However, yesterday (February 21) Cara Vanderhook - a spokeswoman for the venue - told Reuters: "As of right now, there will be meat options for fans." However, there will also be a special range of meatless food on sale during the evening, including vegan sushi and hummus and pitta bread.

Morrissey recently postponed a run of shows on his US tour after receiving treatment for a bleeding ulcer. Writing on fan site True To You, the singer issued an apology to fans and said that he is at "the mercy of biological chance", before asking fans for their "liberal tolerance".

He wrote that he is currently receiving medical care in Los Angeles and said: "I apologise to an almost annoying degree for any trouble I've caused to anyone by way of travel plans and dog-sitters and ticket-outlay and re-molded hairstyles."

The singer said that his goal was to restart his tour in San Diego on February 27. "I gorge myself on thanks for the many and varied messages of support that I've received over these recent four weeks. They have yanked me out of prolonged mood dips and cured a crisis of spirits," he added.

Parlophone Records will put out a limited edition seven-inch picture disc of Morrissey's 1989 single 'The Last Of The Famous International Playboys' and a remastered version of his second solo album, 1991's 'Kill Uncle', on April 8.
