Morrissey opens up about two-year relationship with male friend in autobiography
Book reveals former Smiths frontman spent time with man named Jake Owen Walters in his 30s
Writing in Autobiography, which is published in the UK and Europe today, Morrissey writes that he enjoyed a two-year relationship with the man, though he doesn't specify if they were lovers or not. Referencing his notorious celibacy, Morrissey writes that his time with Walters saw "the first time in my life the eternal 'I' becomes 'we', as, finally, I can get on with someone".

"Jake and I neither sought nor needed company other than our own for the whirlwind stretch to come," Morrissey writes. "Indulgently Jake and I test how far each of us can go before 'being dwelt in' causes cries of intolerable struggle, but our closeness transcends such visitations."
One part of the book, published by Penguin Classics, tackles the issue of Morrissey's sexuality head on when he and Walters are asked if they are lovers when boarding a flight. "'Well,' says the woman in the British Airways lounge, 'you're either very close brothers or lovers.'" Morrissey writes. "'Can't brothers be lovers?' I imprudently reply – always ready with the pointlessly pert, whether sensible or not."
Morrissey is set to launch his eagerly-awaited autobiography with a book signing in Sweden today (October 17). The former frontman of The Smiths will apparently appear on the book's European launch date in person at Akademibokhandeln Nordstan in Gothenburg to sign copies of his memoir. In the announcement, Morrissey fan site True To You added "No additional book signings are planned". The cover of the book is pictured above. A US release date has yet to be confirmed.
Morrissey: Autobiography was originally due for release on September 16 but a statement three days prior to that date explained that the book would no longer be available on that date and would not even be published by Penguin.
Over the past year Morrissey has postponed and cancelled a host of tour dates because of his mother's and his own ill health. He recently revealed that he nearly died earlier this year due to medical problems.
