Mr Hudson feels the 'Jay-Z' effect at Chicago gig for Kanye West

Brit singer's turn on 'The Blueprint 3' brings out the crowd at label show

Mr Hudson played a showcase for Kanye West's label GOOD Music in Chicago on Friday (September 18) - and has told NME.COM he is already benefiting from appearing on Jay-Z's 'The Blueprint 3'.

The British singer played at the RSVP gallery in his mentor's hometown, and despite being concerned that an American audience would not show for the gig, he admitted he was surprised by the response he received.

"I was a little concerned that despite 'Supernova' being fairly well known at home, it might not have much impact on the American crowd, but as soon as the chorus kicked in people held their drinks in the air and cheered," he said.

"Then when 'Forever Young' started they really warmed up and people started singing along. I suppose '...Blueprint 3' is a particularly big deal right now! They made me feel really welcome."

Hudson's track features as the closing song on Jay-Z's latest album, and is included on the singer's own forthcoming Kanye West-produced record 'Straight No Chaser'.

The night, which also featured Kid Cudi and Common, followed a Mr Hudson show in New York, which was almost shut down by the police.

"People came out on to balconies and roof terraces around the block and started waving and dancing along. The lighting man started using the lights as searchlights, felt like some Batman behaviour. This was a once in a lifetime party," he said of the New York Fashion Week show at the Renaissance Hotel.

"The police turned up halfway through the set. The actual police, not the band – though I believe Sting lives nearby. Someone must've complained so they repeatedly ordered our soundman Pete to turn the system off, but being an original gangster he just shook his head and turned it up! Thanks Pete. I owe you one."
