MUDHONEY'S FUTURE HITS TODAY! (WELL, SEPTEMBER...)

Mudhoney, former Seattle-scene contemporaries of Nirvana, are to release their new album 'Tomorrow Hit Today' next month.

The album, the band's fifth, was produced by Jim Dickinson (Big Star, Primal Scream, Replacements), and includes the following songs: 'A Thousand Forms Of Mind', 'I Have To Laugh', 'Oblivion', 'Try To Be Kind', 'Poisoned Water', 'Real Low Vibe', 'This Is The Life', 'Night Of The Hunted', 'Move With The Wind', 'Ghost', 'I Will Fight No More Forever' and 'Beneath The Valley Of The Underdog'. Release date is September 21.

The band are also making a flying visit to the UK to play a one-off gig at London's Garage on September 11. Their spokesperson said it was unlikely they would make any other appearances.

Mudhoney were formed in 1988 when ex-Green River members Mark Arm (vocals/guitars) and Steve Turner (guitars) recruited bass player Matt Lurkin and drummer Dan Peters. The line-up has remained intact through four previous albums: 'Mudhoney' (1989), 'Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge' (1991), 'Piece Of Cake' (1992) and 'My Brother The Cow' (1995).

They are credited by many critics as being the creators of grunge, though overshadowed by the gigantic success of Seattle peers Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Their seminal 'Touch Me I'm Sick' single (covered by Sonic Youth), was satirized in the Gen X romantic comedy Singles, by the screen grunge band Citizen Dick (Matt Dillon plus various members of Pearl Jam) with their "big-in-Belgium" single 'Touch Me, I'm Dick'.

Mudhoney's last UK live performance was at the Reading Festival in 1995.
