Mumford and Sons played a brand new song this afternoon (March 17) at the premiere of the Emmett Malloy directed film Big Easy Express at SXSW. You can watch fan footage of the song below.

The band played a short acoustic set with the members of the other acts in the film, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine show after the movie aired at the Paramount Theatre in Austin, Texas.

As well as the new song, the slow paced 'Where Are You Now', the band played 'Roll Away Your Stone' with members of the other two bands. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros then performed their new song 'I Don’t Wanna Pray' and were then joined by Mumford and Sons for 'Wash Out In The Rain'. The musicians finished up the short set by playing 'Train In The Sky', the song they wrote together during the tour and which also features in the film.

It is not known if 'Where Are You Now' will be included on Mumford and Sons forthcoming second album, the follow up to 2009's multimillion selling 'Sigh No More'.

Big Easy Express follows the three bands on their 2011 Railroad Revival Tour, which saw them travelling 2477 miles from Oakland to New Orleans on vintage train carriages and playing gigs in various towns, along the side of the railway tracks. It was directed by Emmett Malloy, who was also behind the 2009 White Stripes film Under Great White Northern Lights.

After the screening, Malloy answered questions from the crowd, saying: "I like it when films in general are about a journey." He added that the filming experience was so great because "when you're rolling through the country and you lift your shades and you see a beautiful sunset, you're like, I don’t even have to get out of bed to shoot this shot."

"I think it was the best thing we've ever done," said Mumford and Sons frontman Marcus Mumford after the screening. "Watching it feels like going back in time."

The bands will be performing as part of SXSW tonight at the University of Texas, following a second screening of Big Easy Express. For more information on the film visit: bigeasyexpress.com
