Mumford and Sons' Winston Marshall has revealed that Elton John told him not get his cock out at the Grammys.

The banjo player was due to go onstage at the US awards ceremony when Elton John called him over to give him the life lesson. Marshall revealed all in an interview with BBC Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe backstage at this week's Brit Awards.

He said: "We were getting ready and were a bit nervous, a bit sweaty. Sir Elton goes, 'Winston, Winston, come over here'. So I went over I said, 'alright Sir Elton, what's up?' He goes: 'Winston, now would be a fucking terrible time to get your cock out'."

Marshall added: "Elton John is an absolute lad. He's a hero. He made that whole thing fun, because it was so weird." You can watch the full interview with Zane Lowe below.

Mumford & Sons, who picked up Album of the Year Grammy for 'Babel', added to their awards tally by winning Best British Group at the 2013 Brits on Wednesday (February 20), beating Muse, The xx and One Direction as well as Alt-J.

Following his Brit success, Winston Marshall was reportedly turned away from his own aftershow party. The banjo player tried to get into Universal Records afterparty in London's East End only to be denied entry.
