Sussex band call it a day

Sussex indie rockers Mumm-Ra have announced that they have split up.

The five-piece, who played on the Shockwaves NME Indie Rock Tour last year alongside The Automatic, The View and The Horrors, posted the announcement on the Mumm-Ra MySpace page. They did not reveal the specific reason behind their decision.

In the announcement they thanked fans for their support of the band, who released their only album, 'These Things Move In Threes', in May last year. They suggested that the individual band members are likely to return to music soon.

The announcement read: "After seven years, 11 months and 21 days of writing and playing music together us Mumm-Ra boys have decided our journey as a band has come to an end.

"It has without doubt been the most fantastic adventure any of us could possibly have imagined all those years ago, when the rather naive idea to form a band sprang from our young minds and led us to the nearest practise room.

"Since then we have eaten in skyscrapers in Tokyo, danced with Tottenham fans in Cologne, made a video in Hollywood, posed with the playboy bunnies in Barcelona, met real life rednecks in Texas, had street fights with The View, played Glastonbury, rocked the NME tour to pieces, supported The Killers, The Kooks and Kaiser Chiefs around Europe and generally just had the most incredible time along the way.

"We would like to thank every single person who has supported us over the years whether it be through buying our album, coming to our gigs or just giving us a listen. No doubt various members will have new projects up and running in the near future. But until then..."

they were ok, had a few good songs, but the album on a whole was just ok. there are worse bands than them that need to split!

There seems to be so much post-libertine middle of the road indie rubbish these days that they can't all compete with eachother. Did Mumm-Ra actually have any big fans, or were they just lumped in with the scene?

Mumm-Ra were a beautiful and really quite marvelous band and i am proud to call myself a big fan and saw what i think may of been their last ever gig, at the Graduate in Cambridge. They shall be sorely missed.

I'm pretty sure this happened ages ago anyway. Not too bothered really. Just glad Milburn have finally called it a day.

I insist that before commenting on Mumm-Ra, the wannabe critics out there listen to: She's Got You High (following on where Blur left off); Now or Never; and Out of the Question. All fantastic. And as a singer songwriter myself always on the search for great songs advocate them as sheer brilliance - not jumped on the post Libertines bandwagon! Been around 7 years. Wombats, View and Pigeons have stolen their thunder. I like em. So there.

WAAAAAAHHHH - I Love Mumm-ra. They were fantastic - Saw them about 4 or 5 times, they were the stand out band on that NME tour. Gutted. They shouldn't be lumped in with middle of the road indie stuff. They were genuinely interesting.

I'm willing to bet most of the people here saying Mumm-Ra were "middle of the road indie" never bothered to listen to any of the songs more than once. These Things Move In Three's was a fantastic album and full of layers. Try listening to music more than once for a change and you may just learn something about it.Real shame they've called it a day.
