Muse might ditch album format

Trio admit they may only release singles from now on

Muse have revealed they might ditch the album format and only release new material as singles from now on.

Although the band are currently in an Italian studio working on new material, the Teignmouth trio have admitted they want to experiment with the way that new material reaches fans.

Speaking to NME.COM frontman Matt Bellamy said: "I don’t think we’re going to approach the next album like we’re making an album."

He added: "I like the idea of releasing a series of songs, every month or every couple of months – just putting songs out there. Almost like making the single a more prominent format, and then every few years doing a best of from that period and that would be the album. So in other words, throw out songs every couple of months and see how people like them."

Read more about Muse’s future plans, including their new focus on singles and their forthcoming headlining V Festival performance, in this week’s NME, out in all good newsagents now.

Listening singles only feels like reading a single chapter in a book or watching a scene in a movie without beeing permitted to enjoy the whole thing. Bad move, Muse...

That's a pretty decent idea. Hopefully other bands will adopt it and we'll get new material a lot more regularly.

I don't care what format they decide to release songs in, I just hope they keep making the best music in the universe! Can't wait to see em at V fest...Go Muse!!!!!

this is the worst news ever! I like the experience of a whole album and how the songs all connect. I never expected anything like this from my favourite band. I am very dissapointed

With the news about releasing material in a series of songs, they should consider doing what Trent Reznor does with some of his tracks. Where he lets fans remix (or dissect for their own pleasure) Nine Inch Nails tracks by sticking "Garageband/Live" project files on the internet.

Who knows what people could come up with if there was that possibility?!

Also, a shame that Muse haven't used the U-Myx technology on another single as that was quite exciting to use.
It's great when a band (and software developer) can give you the power to extend music that little further...

Hows about it muse? You should give it a try!

They better start work on their follow up songs/album soon, Muse fans, and myself, don't want a gap as long or longer between Absolution and BHAR!

It's a similar idea to the one that Ash came up with a year or so ago.

To be honest, it doesn't really matter whether they carry on using the album format, or do this singles thing, as long as they carry on making amazing music thats all that matters isn't it? They are just experimneting with different ways to broadcast their music to the world. Go for it muse! =)x
