Muse begin work on fifth album

Matt Bellamy and co start writing songs for next release

Muse have begun writing songs for the follow-up to their 2006 album 'Black Holes And Revelations'.

The Devon trio say they took a break after dates on their world tour - which they will wrap up offically at V Festival this August - but have recently got back to work.

Dom Howard drummed for Andy Burrows when the Razorlight man played a solo show last night in London, but told NME.COM his main band were active again.

"We've just started writing songs for the new album, whatever it's going to be, you know?" he said. "It's going great, we just started. We're right at the tip at the moment and I think the point is that we've been on the road for so long... It's really about getting back together and getting the ball rolling again and seeing whether it'll roll."

However Frontman Matt Bellamy has told NME.COM he is not yet sure yet what form the record will take - and it may not appear as a conventional album.

"What will come out of that is impossible to say," he declared. "It may just be albums, but it may be a stream of singles, or it may just be one 50-minute symphony, do you know what I mean? Who knows?"

I do hope it's better than Black Holes and Revelations, which earned plenty of undeserved plaudits, but in reality was woful and a long way short of (in particular) O.O.S. If it's a 50-minute symphony, I won't even bother....

Any other band I wouldn't be so interested, but Muse are just so erratic and... odd, that anything could happen! I really hope they experiment with this one, ok so not to the point where they look like idiots, but I think they could truely make something revolutionary with this! More invincible solos anyone?

The only poor record Muse have ever really done is "Absolution"...True, it may have "Stockholm Syndrome" and "Butterflies & Hurricanes" and a couple of other good singles, but the rest of it really passes you by.

Anything any music artist does...muse will do better and bigger....and look cooler doing it. Its a scientific fact.

Yes! That news has made my day! Can't wait - Every album they have done has been different in style to the last, but, like 'J D 918', I really want them to go for something completely different, but still undeniably Muse. I can't wait...

Great news! Muse will have fun trying to tour a 5th album though. I mean, their current set is bursting with classic tracks so what classics will they leave out to put the new ones in!! Nice dilemma to have though.

Last time they said they were influenced by the dancey guitar parts of Franz and made Supermassive Black Hole, now they're into Klaxons type rave-influenced music - what would happen!?

They had better go back to their Showbiz and Origin of Symmetry era...cos if I'm honest, BH&R was terrible. "Invincible" was possibly the worst song I've ever heard by Muse. Appalling. I'm hoping their 5th album will be good!

I think Absoultion is the best Muse album but I love all their stuff. Wasn't too impressed by some parts of Origin Of Symmetry, I have to say. I don't care, I'm seeing them at V at can't bloody wate. They're basically the only reason I'm going. I can't stand the Verve - I think Bitter Sweet Symphony is one of the worst songs of all time. I'll watch Kaiser Chiefs AGAIN while they're on.

I owe muse my life, I used to be paralysed from the waist down but after hearing them on the radio the feelings came back in my legs and I could walk again! The first thing I did with my new found freedom was turn off the fucking stereo. Shite band!

muse are one of the most overated bands ever they may do amasing live shows but that just covers up the fact they write dull and repetertive I don't care if there releaseing a new album it will probably sound the same as the last one and one more thing screw some cool whatever there name is the verve rule

We will be looking back in 20/30 years time after Muse have bowed out and our children (along with our selfs) will be pleading for a reunion just like Led Zeppelin and for that final tour to play a greatest hits set. So like them or not (as I'm not a massive Zeppelin fan but respect what they do) they will go down in history and be the greatest band of our era and will change the face of the music world for years to come.

WTF is 'darkdeity' on about! Absolution is the best fecking album they've done! I'll remember to completely ignore the fact that Hysteria burns my brain and makes my eyes explode with sexual euthoria the next time I heard it.twat.

I like a wide range of music and muse is up there in my top 5 favorite bands, their in a leage of thier own where no other music can compare. They have a song for every person and since their debut album "origin of symmetry" was released they have only got better and better and nothing tells me that that won't change in the future. But one thing that makes muse so special for me is that they have great music on their albums and they can actualy play them well live which is the skill that not alot of bands have. No wonder they won the best live act of the year wheb you watch h.a.a.r.p. But whats so special about the music is that it flows perfectly, chris plays melodys on the bass with matts guitar riffs on top and dominic suppying a constant beat on the drums, the combination is trully overwhelming! they are a talented trio and they can do things many bands can't. thats why they are so special

I wish Muse would go darker. I absolutely love "Take A Bow" and "Stockholm Syndrome." BH&R was quite a cool album, but they should backtrack musically a little. Ah well, time will tell.
