Didn't think I'd be looking forward to the end of the summer this much! Great news, can't wait to see them in Dublin. When's the first single out?

Am i the only person in the entire world that think Muse are a little overated?

ArcticMonkey

Jun 18, 2009

Yes you are, Stuntman Mike. And you're clearly a mentalist! I hate summer anyway, so this is another reason to want it to be over. Bring the new album on, can't wait. I'll have it learned for my two nights at the O2!! Muse gig no's 17 & 18 here I come!!

No you arent the only one Mike. What really pisses me off though is how whenever a conversation about a good live band comes up, say Foo Fighters or Radiohead... "DEY ARENT MUSE... MUSE R DA BEST LIVE BAND"I find Muse boring live to be honest, sure they play their songs perfectly, but they have no character or personality. Watch Foo Fighters live and you'll see what I mean

I don't find them to be overrated. AC/DC, Rise Against and The Killers, on the other hand ...

Gusman

Jun 18, 2009

Stuntman Mike..No you're not.

seamonkey007

Jun 18, 2009

Nope you are not the only one Mike.... A good band Muse are without a doubt, but always a poor mans Radiohead in my eyes. Not ostracising Bellamy and co. I just think they are a little overated as our good man Mike suggests. I prefer early Muse compared to the football stadium pleasers they are today! Kasabian in my eyes are overated to... but i will leave that 'Oasis brown nosing, lager swilling can of worms closed ;).

....no Stuntman Mike, they are fucking highly overated dogshit, cannot stand that whiney twats bad Thom vocal style.....not bad instruments wise tho...

HystericalGemini

Jun 18, 2009

Stuntman Mike, you probably aren't the only person, but the fact that Muse are one of the most gigantic and most respected stadium rock acts of the 21st century, I'm going ignore said 'overrated' comment :)

kahlo

Jun 18, 2009

No Mike, you aren't alone. Muse make music empty of any soul whatsoever, and create some of the most bombastic repetitive albums I've ever heard. Hopefully this time they can resist the temptation to repeat themselves....again.

lisalush

Jun 18, 2009

stuntman mike - you're probs not but they aren't overated. :Phave u seen them play live??lol.

Stuntman Mike

Jun 18, 2009

Lisalush, yes iv seen em many times doing the rounds at festivals and the first time i saw em back in 99 they got blown offstage by the support act.....Soulwax....It happened honest!but i think Seamonkey has hit the nail on its head.

DanaRudenko

Jun 19, 2009

oh common people they're not overrated.somebody likes them somebody doesn't.and the do have personality.just watch h.a.a.r.p.it's unbeliveable.please just watch.i'm sure you'll like it.and if you don't then ...well.then it's just not your style of music.and btw.matts voice is nothing like thom yorke.maybe it was similar in early albums like 'Showbiz' but not now.

DanaRudenko

Jun 19, 2009

oh and kahlo.wtf.the albums are absolutely different.i mean there is something connecting all of them - its called style.anyway.muse r one of the best live bands in the world.absolutely fantastic music.and do not try to prove they are not until you listen all the albums.

20legend

Jun 19, 2009

kahlo, how can you seriously accuse Muse of being soulless? 'Starlight' is a beautiful song with lots of heart, and they have many touching and soulfull songs such as 'Endlessly', and many - MANY - powerful songs whose bombast doesn't take away their soul 'Time Is Running Out', 'Hysteria', 'Muscle Museum' etc. If you just don't like the band, fair enough, but don't put down a great band in such an ignorant manner you child

vladitude

Jun 19, 2009

I don't think muse and radiohead can be used in the same sentence anymore. They are so far apart musically.

danielmizzle

Jun 19, 2009

Wow, I can't stand you pitchfork media junior college 'critics' who bull shit your way around putting down so many great bands. As far as energy and innovation in the prog-rock scene Muse is unchallenged by any band. And look, I love Radiohead (don't like foo fighters though honestly) and I see similarity in that both Matt and Thom use falsetto.. and also... wait, no, never mind that's the only similarity (Their voices are not similar and Matt has twice the range). But dude.. It's ignorant to not realize that radiohead is a jazz-electro rock style with more somber lyrics, while Muse is a rock band... "Rock" band. If you ever listen to bands like pink floyd, led zeppelin, rage against the machine, queen or the Pianist Rachmaninov then just combine all of the above and that's what muse is. Basically I'm saying that the two bands are not in the same field to compare one to the other. Anyways, If you can appreciate Queen, Rachmaninov, Rage, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Styx then just think on it and you'll realize that Muse is not overrated. Despite whether you're a fan or not. (They're actually underrated by the media, when in reality they have one hell of a massive cult following. i.e. 'origins of symmetry' only made top 100 albums of all time for a few magazines).

seamonkey I couldn't have said it better myself. Give me early muse any day, not this theatricality stuff. Overrated.

danielmizzle u just said everything i wanted :Dmuse r awesome.

Moz207

Jun 20, 2009

Well said danielmizzle. Going to see a live band has to be a visual experience as well as sound, otherwise what is the point? In these days of downloading and file sharing record sales are not what they were when Floyd, ELP et al were in their hey day. These bands often toured at cost or at a loss to promote an album. it is the other way round now, an album is made to promote the tour! And hell don't these lads tour.I fell out with music for years after the magical 70's but Muse have re-lit my fire for rock music again. i have clocked up 20+ Muse gigs starting in a small upstairs room in a Sheffield pub (the grapes) with an audience of about 20 to Wembley Stadium. Hoping to break 30 this year. I can't get enough of them. Brilliant!

seamonkey007

Jun 20, 2009

Well this has been quite a debate ! I commend everyone for their constructive comments!!! Through this debate , Im going to buy a few more Muse Lps and give them another chance. There is no doubt they do put a lot of effort into thier work, and have a huge following. The point myself and MIke was trying to make is the fact we thought they were a little... and I stress the word LITTLE overated... I still stand by that, but im not saying they are garbage by any stretch of the imagination! anyway im off to drink some beer and enjoy the weekend all of the above !!! seamonkey007 over and out x

i agree with all the people going against stuntman mike and his shockingly ever growing army of followers. Anyone who says Muse has no soul in their music obviously hasnt listened to Muse, simple as. The soul can be found in the simplest of things, from matt bellamys powerful voice and the way he throws himself into singing the words with his whole heart (if you dont beleieve me then watch the H.A.A.R.P video of 'hoodoo' or 'feeling good' on youtube), and soul can be found in the amazing attention to detail in their music, such as the wonderful part at the end of muscle museum where the main riff is played softly and fades out. And if its more than soul your looking for, then their epic space age, conspiracy theory and dramatic love themes should be perfect for you. And one final thing, they dont just play perfect live, they play better than perfect! Perfect would mean it is just like the studio version, but it is played better! When live they impossibly manage to pump the songs with even more energy than in the studio versions, any rock music fan who once listening to a live performance from them does not has a smile on their face from the sheer coolness of it is in denial, or two far up their own 'independant' asses to hear the music properly. Oh and anyone still comparing muse to radiohead, needs to move on past the showbiz days, and maybe listen to their other albums before judging them.

dear sim94.... Its not about 'going against' people... its just a debate of opinions fella. and besides if you were that a big a Muse fan you would'nt be the last person to comment several days after this topic was raised... dont worry ive phoned you a taxi ;) STUNTMAN MIKE 'S ARMY MARCHES ON..... HA HA HA.

Most of the music i hear these days bores the shit out of me, plinky plonky boring 4 chord indie music, if bands like muse didn't exsist i'd fucking kill myself, they are far from overrated.and as for stuntman mike and this quote 'i saw em back in 99 they got blown offstage by the support act.....Soulwax', i doubt that ever happened and is that why they did a god awful remix of muscle museum?
