Muse's two Devon homecoming shows are go

Muse are set to proceed with two homecoming gigs at the Teignmouth's The Den venue on September 4 and 5 after their local council approved the shows.

As NME.COM reported earlier this month, the band and their local council have been in 'secret talks' regarding the gigs for weeks.

Following a licensing hearing – which Muse bassist Chris Wolstenholme personally attended – yesterday (August 17), Teignmouth Council finally gave the thumbs-up for the shows to take place.

An objection from police regarding traffic management and crime was withdrawn, and no other objections were received from local residents, paving the way for the approval.

Agreeing the gigs, the council declared the show must not exceed 84.1 decibels at the nearest premises to the venue, reports the Herald Express.

"I am chuffed to bits the application has been granted," Wolstenholme said. "We were coming towards the end of making the album about four months ago and were talking about warm-up gigs.

"We thought that it would be great to do something on The Den, rather than the typical London gig or radio session. I think it will be a proud moment for us and it will show people what we have been doing for the last 12 years.

"It's not a money-making exercise. It's not a profit-making event and we will want to give something back to the community – maybe a youth organisation – but we have got to look at that in more detail."
