Muse have knocked Mumford and Sons from the top of the UK Official Album Chart today (October 7) with their new album, 'The 2nd Law'.

According to data from the Official Charts Company, the latest LP from the Devon trio shifted 108,000 copies in its first week of release, making it the fourth fastest-selling album of the year so far. Mumford And Sons hang on to the Number Two spot with 'Babel', which became the fastest-selling album of 2012 last week with sales of over 159,000, overtaking Lana Del Rey's 'Born To Die' and Emeli Sandé's 'Our Version Of Events'.

Pink's 'The Truth About Love' and The Killers' 'Battle Born' stay at Number Three and Four respectively, while Emeli Sandé is back at Number Five with 'Our Version Of Events.'

Meanwhile, in the Official Singles Chart, Rihanna scored her sixth UK Number One with new release 'Diamonds', edging out last week’s best-seller, Psy's internet smash 'Gangnam Style', which slips to Number Two.

One Direction's new single 'Live While We’re Young' is at Number Three, with Adele's 'Skyfall' at Number Four despite only going on sale at seven minutes past midnight on Friday (October 5) – the track sold a staggering 84,000 copies in just 48 hours. Ellie Goulding rounds out the Top Five with ‘Anything Could Happen’.
