Controversial ‘X Factor’ contestant Honey G ‘will duet with Vanilla Ice if she makes final’

Though some critics have called her act a problematic parody of hip-hop culture, she's now just three weeks away from the final.

Controversial X Factor contestant Honey G will reportedly duet with ’90s rapper Vanilla Ice if she makes the show’s final.

The 35-year-old white rapper from Harrow in North-West London – or “North Weezy” as she calls it – has been the major talking point of this year’s series, with some critics calling her act a problematic parody of hip-hop culture.

The Guardian‘s Lola Okolosie recently argued that her performance on the show is “modern-day blackface”.

However, she remains unexpectedly popular with viewers and is now just three weeks away from the final, when contestants traditionally duet with big-name pop stars like Beyoncé, George Michael and Ed Sheeran.

“Around this time in the live rounds, show bosses start looking into potential acts for the traditional finalists’ collaborations,” an unnamed source told The Sun. “Vanilla Ice is being seriously considered and he’s bang up for it, too.”

The source added: “X Factor bosses accept they’ll struggle to find current big-name rappers to perform with Honey G. But in some respects they would prefer a more retro and amusing collaboration instead. You can imagine Honey G and Vanilla Ice would be an amazing spectacle.”

Meanwhile, the controversial rapper has responded to criticism from the likes of Lily Allen, warning her critics: “They don’t know who they’re messing with”.

Allen recently described Honey G as “offensive”, adding that the act was “so wrong on so many levels”.

Responding in an interview with The Sun, Honey G said of Allen: “She’s obviously feeling threatened by a white woman coming onto the scene and rapping and coming out and smashing it and shutting the whole thing down.”

During the interview, Honey G also responded to criticism from Professor Green and Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson.
