Tupac screenplay finally set for release?

'Live 2 Tell' is rumoured to be out in 2010

A screenplay written by Tupac Shakur while he was in prison is rumoured to be in production in preparation for a 2010 release.

‘Time 2 Kill’ was written by the rapper, who was killed in 1996, when he was incarcerated in 1995 for sexual assault charges. According to the film’s IMDB entry, it focuses on a man who is dragged into the drug world by his mentor, eventually becoming the most feared kingpin in his city. As the man’s conscience gets the better of him he is slowly driven towards redemption.

It is not the first time the film has been rumoured to be in production. In 2005, the rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur (who owns the rights to the screenplay) was set to produce it. However, that version of the picture never materialised.

The move comes on the back of the success of ‘Notorious’ – the biopic of Notorious BIG, which was released in January.

Since the success of ‘Notorious’, a number of other hip-hop stories have been mooted for the silver screen.

Members of NWA including Ice Cube and Dr Dre are allegedly looking for producers for a biopic about the band to be called ‘Straight Outta Compton’, reports Hollywood Insider.

Meanwhile, Cheo Hodari Coker‘Notorious’‘s screenwriter – is said to have been asked to adapt Bill Adler‘s Run-DMC biography ‘Tougher Than Leather’ into a motion picture, according to Hollywood Reporter.
