The late, great star wins Best R&B Act - and there's also good news for The Charlatans and Missy Elliott...

THE

CHARLATANS, LOSTPROPHETS, MISSY

ELLIOTT and AALIYAH are the latest start to have won NME CARLING AWARDS this

afternoon (February 25).

The ceremony is now halfway through at

London’s

Planit Arches, presented by Zane Lowe. The

Charlatans have walked off with the NME Carling

Award for ‘Best Radio 1 Evening Session’,

presented by Steve Lamacq.

‘Best Metal Act’

has been won by NME Carling

Awards Tour stars Lostprophets, beating off other nominees Linkin Park, System

Of A Down, Andrew WK and

Slipknot, while Missy

Elliott deservedly won ‘Best Hip-Hop / Rap

Act’ ahead of Eminem,

OutKast and Bubba Sparxxx. Missy

couldn’t make it to the awards in person, so UK garage stars Oxide &

Neutrino picked up the award on her behalf.

Late R&B star Aaliyah has also won an NME Carling Award, six months after her

tragic death in a plane crash. She was posthumously awarded ‘Best

R&B / Soul Act’, which was picked up by Mis-Teeq.

A moving video tribute to the tragic star was also played.

The NME

Carling Awards continue, and

NME.COM will bring you more results as they are announced

throughout the afternoon.
