A$AP Rocky hit with assault charge following incident at Jay Z festival

Rapper accused of hitting woman at Made In America event in Philadelphia on Saturday (August 31)

A$AP Rocky has been hit with an assault charge following an alleged incident at the Made In America festival in Philadelphia this weekend.

Rocky was performing at the festival, organised by Jay Z on Saturday, August 31, when the alleged assault is alleged to have taken place. TMZ reports that a woman claims that the rapper hit her with an open hand after making his way through the crowd during his performance. The woman also claims she suffered whiplash as a result of the slap and filed a claim with the district attorney’s office, who have subsequently charged the rapper with simple misdemeanour assault.

The charge follows a similar incident dating back to June 2012 where the rapper was sued for assault by a man who says he beat him up in a clothing store. The victim, Shenick Alcine, claims he saw the Harlem-based rapper take an unnamed illegal drug in the New York store before he was attacked by him. Rocky then turned his anger on two amateur photographers who were filming the incident.

Meanwhile, Rocky recently said that Kendrick Lamar is “smoking crack” if he thinks he is the best rapper in New York. He made the comment after being quizzed on Lamar’s provocative verse on the recent Big Sean track ‘Control’. On the song, Lamar called out a number of his fellow MCs, including A$AP Rocky, while crowning himself the “King of New York” despite hailing from Compton, Los Angeles.

Speaking about the track, Rocky said that Lamar was “smoking crack” if he believes the claim but praised the rapper for attempting to raise the bar in terms of quality in hip-hop. “Honestly, K. Dot and them niggas, that’s fam. I think hip-hop needs this shit,” he said. “It’s niggas pissed off just because they wasn’t mentioned. I’m not justifying shit, rap is rap. The nigga didn’t say nothing about nobody mother, he ain’t want problems. He said these is my niggas and I’m lettin’ y’all know it’s competition. What’s the problem? That man know I’m where he at.”
