A$AP Rocky surprised at reaction to his anti-homophobia comments

Rapper also teams up with Skrillex in 'Wild For The Nght' video

A$AP Rocky has said that it is “crazy” that his criticism of gay rappers is seen as an issue and topic of discussion.

The rapper, who released his debut album proper ‘Long. Live. A$AP’ earlier this year, has gone on record as saying that homophobia in hip-hop needs to end. However, in a new interview he has revealed that he was not prepared for what headlines his viewpoint would make, assuming that it was the way the majority of people think. Speaking to Interview, Rocky said: “For instance, one big issue in hip-hop is the gay thing. It’s 2013, and it’s a shame that, to this day, that topic still gets people all excited. It’s crazy. And it makes me upset that this topic even matters when it comes to hip-hop, because it makes it seem like everybody in hip-hop is small-minded or stupid — and that’s not the case.”

He added: “We’ve got people like Jay-Z. We’ve got people like Kanye. We’ve got people like me. We’re all prime examples of people who don’t think like that. I treat everybody equal, and so I want to be sure that my listeners and my followers do the same if they’re gonna represent me. And if I’m gonna represent them, then I also want to do it in a good way.”

Describing the situation as “retarded”, Rocky spoke on the same subject earlier this year when he said: “I’m not saying that hip-hop needs gay rappers or anything, but they need to stop being so close-minded because that will just cause the genre to fail.”

Meanwhile, A$AP Rocky has revealed the video for his single ‘Wild For The Night’. The video was shot in The Dominican Republic and features Skrillex, who produced the track. Scroll down to see the video now.
