Adele’s ’25’ breaks first week album sales record in US

'25' is also on target for the fastest selling album of all time in the UK

Adele’s third album ’25’ has broken the first week album sales record in the US.

’25’ has sold over 2.433 million copies in the US in just over three days.

As reported by Billboard, the record for the fastest single-week album sales was previously held by boyband *NSYNC, who sold 2.416 million copies of their album ‘No Strings Attached’ in 2000.

With over three days left in the sales tracking week, Adele is likely to increase her record number of first week album sales in the US by a significant amount.

The reports come via Nielson Music, who began tracking US record sales in 1991. Prior to Nielson Music, it was unknown how many copies of an album or single were sold in a single week.

Adele is also on target to smash UK chart records for first-week sales, having sold 538,000 copies of ’25’ in the UK in the first 72 hours following the album’s release.

Oasis’ third album ‘Be Here Now’ holds the current UK chart record for first week sales, having sold 696,000 copies in the week of its release in August 1997.

The stats, revealed by the Official Charts Company, mean between its release on Friday and midnight Sunday, Adele sold 7,472 albums an hour, 124 a minute or just over two every second.

’25’ went to number one in 106 countries on the day of its release, with Adele releasing the following statement:

“This feels like such a long time coming, my new album is finally out. I am so overwhelmed and grateful to be able to even put another record out, and put it out how I want. The last month has been a whirlwind, it’s literally taken my breath away. I hope you enjoy the record as much as I enjoyed making it for you.”

The album is not set to appear on streaming sites like Spotify at present.

Users are greeted with the following message when they try to listen to the record: “The artist or their representatives have decided not to release this album on Spotify just yet. We’re working on it and hope we can change their minds soon.”

A spokesperson for the streaming service added: “We love and respect Adele, as do her 24 million fans on Spotify. We hope that she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy ’25’ on Spotify alongside ’19’ and ’21’ very soon.”

The ’25’ tracklist is as follows:

‘Hello’
‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover)’
‘I Miss You’
‘When We Were Young’
‘Remedy’
‘Water Under The Bridge’
‘River Lea’
‘Love In The Dark’
