Adele says she scrapped album ‘about being a mum’ because it was ‘pretty boring’

Singer released new single 'Hello' from upcoming album '25' today

Adele has revealed how she discarded songs written about motherhood because they were too “boring”.

The singer revealed the video for new single ‘Hello’ earlier today (October 23), with her third album ’25’ to follow in November.

Speaking to Nick Grimshaw on BBC Radio 1 this morning, Adele said: “I did write an album about being a mum but that’s pretty boring. I scrapped that”.

The singer gave birth to her first son Angelo in October 2012.

She has also said that her new lifestyle made it difficult to start work on her album: “Getting into the headspace was really difficult – obviously now I’m a parent, and having such a break off, I kind of fell out of the habit of writing songs.”

Prior to premiering her new single on the show, the singer said she was “so nervous” that she was “going to belch”. “There’s a heartbeat in my hips for some reason,” she added.

Adele described her new song as “very intimate” and “very conversational”. Watch the video below.

’25’ will be released on November 20, following 2011’s ’21’. The album artwork for ’25’ is a simple black and white image of Adele’s face, which can be seen below.

Earlier this week, Adele published an open letter to fans in which she apologised for making fans wait to hear it.

In the letter Adele wrote about how she always wanted to be older when she was growing up and her regrets over not enjoying her life in the moment. Talking about her new music, Adele writes: “My last record [’21’] was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record. I’m making up with myelf. Making up for lost time. Making up for everything I ever did and never did.”

Later in the letter Adele added: “’25’ is about getting to know who I’ve become without realising. And I’m sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened.”

Adele announced her return in an anonymous advert which aired during The X Factor in Britain on October 18.

Viewers of the ITV show saw a 30 second clip of Adele’s voice with the lyrics to the song flashing up in black and white on the screen.

Damon Albarn worked on new material with Adele, but said he doesn’t think she will use it. He also referred to her new music as “very middle of the road”.

The new material is also rumoured to include a song written by Tobias Jesso Jr, as well as appearances from OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder, producer Danger Mouse and pop writer-producer Max Martin, who’s best known for his work with ’90s pop acts N’Sync, Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys.

Earlier this year, producer Emile Haynie revealed he met with Adele in February to discuss potentially working together, but that the singer was “taking her time” over a new album. “We got along well as friends when we met in February and I hope we can cut some songs, but Adele is taking her time,” he said. “I’d push for it to happen, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
