Comic gets negative reaction to comments made on US chat show
US comic Joan Rivers was booed as she made cruel jokes about Adele‘s weight during a TV appearance this week.
The provocative stand-up was appearing on David Letterman’s chat show earlier this week. When the subject of Adele came up, Rivers blew out her cheeks and held her arms out. Despite being booed by the studio audience, Rivers continued, asking Letterman: “What is her song? ‘Rolling In The Deep’? She should add Fried Chicken.”
Rivers went on to mock Adele’s anxiety before her Oscars performance which involved her claiming she was so nervous she could barely swallow. “I said, ‘Oh yeah, you can swallow’,” Rivers jibed.
Adele’s size was also the butt of a joke Oscar host Seth MacFarlane during his overseeing of the Academy Awards last weekend (February 24) while fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld famously stated that the ’21’ singer is “a little too fat” last year. “The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice,” Lagerfeld said in an interview. Responding to the claims, Adele stated that: “I’ve never wanted to look like models on the cover of magazines. I represent the majority of women and I’m very proud of that.”
Adele has yet to respond to Joan Rivers’ comments.
