Adele‘s hugely successful album ’21’ has continued its stranglehold on the UK album chart and has been named as the biggest selling album of 2012 so far.
The singer’s second album narrowly edged out Lana Del Rey‘s ‘Born To Die’ and Emeli Sande‘s ‘Our Version Of Events’, which are the second and third biggest sellers respectively, reports the Official Charts Company.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ is at Number Four, with Coldplay at Number Five with ‘Mylo Xyloto’ and Bruno Mars’ ‘Doo Wops And Hooligans’ at Number Six. David Guetta, Jessie J, Military Wives and Olly Murs make up the rest of the Top 10 of 2012’s biggest sellers so far.
Gotye‘s hit single ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ is the 2012’s biggest selling single so far, with the Australian singer songwriter just ahead of David Guetta and Sia’s ‘Titanium’.
Jessie J is third with ‘Domino’, with Flo Rida and Sia at Number Four with ‘Wild Ones’ and Emeli Sande at Number Five with ‘Next To Me’. Rizzle Kicks are sixth, DJ Fresh seventh, Nicki Minaj eighth, Kelly Clarkson at Number Nine and Flo Rida once again at Number 10 with ‘Good Feeling’.
Figures for digital album sales are up from 23.6% from this point in 2011 to 33.1%. In the singles market, digital sales now account for 99.7% of all singles sold in the UK.
