Adele’s ’21’ tops official mid-year sales figures

'Someone Like You' singer is also given the all clear to tour again

Adele‘s chart topping album ’21’ has sold more copies than any other album this year, according to Official Charts Company figures.

The singer’s second album beat Lady Gaga‘s ‘Born This Way LP and Rihanna‘s ‘Loud’ in the music sales list between January and June.

Her 2008 debut ’19’ also finished second in the chart while her Number One single ‘Someone Like You’ has sold more than any other single so far in 2011.

An extra 1.7 million downloaded albums were bought between April and June compared with the same period last year.

The news comes on a good day for Adele, who has finally been given the all-clear to perform again after suffering laryngitis.

“It’s basically a hole in your vocal chord but I sang through it so that’s why it popped,” she told Radio 1. “I’m better now, it’s fine, I got the all-clear.”

The singer was forced to cancel tour dates in the US last month following her illness.
