Singer claims top position on both album and singles charts in US

Adele has scored her first US Number One single with ‘Rolling In The Deep’.

The track has climbed from the Number Two spot to occupy the current top slot on the Billboard Hot 100. Her album ‘21’, meanwhile, has been crowned the Number One album on the Billboard Hot 200 chart for the seventh week.

The singer is just the sixth UK artist since the turn of the millennium to be at the top of the US singles chart, and only the second Brit to be Number One on both the Billboard Hot 100 and 200 charts simultaneously this century. Leona Lewis achieved the feat too, claiming both top slots with her debut album ‘Spirit’ and its single ‘Bleeding Love’ in 2008.

‘21’ was at the top of the UK charts for eleven weeks in a row, and broke the record for the most consecutive weeks for a Number One for a solo artist’s studio album in chart history. Meanwhile earlier this week her ex-boyfriend was reportedly demanding a cut of the royalties from her debut LP ‘19’, after claiming their romance gave her inspiration.
