Steven Tyler reveals Aerosmith wrote ‘Walk This Way’ while waiting for a cocaine delivery

Singer says band began jamming as they waited for drugs to arrive

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith has revealed that the band wrote their hit single ‘Walk This Way’ while waiting for drug a drug delivery to arrive.

Speaking to NME, Tyler admits that the 1975 single – which was remade by Run-DMC as a rap-rock crossover smash in 1986 – was created while the band had time on their hands and were waiting for their Class As to arrive. Discussing the background of the hit single, the frontman says: “We were all waiting for a load of blow to come. [Guitarist] Joe Perry was onstage and I ran up onstage and starting jamming with him. Who knew that from jamming with Joe, it would become so big and do what it did?”

Earlier this year Steven Tyler revealed the extent of his cocaine addiction, estimating he had spent $6m on the drug. The 65-year-old frontman confessed that he overestimated the amount of money he has spent on drugs – he previously said he spent $20 million in his 2011 memoir Does The Noise In My Head Bother You – and says he realistically spent $6 million on narcotics.
