Alan McGee to launch new club night in Liverpool with DJ set this Friday (September 6)

Creation Records founder says he wants new bands to hand him their demo CDs as he spins discs on Friday

Alan McGee is to launch a new club night at District in Liverpool this Friday night (September 6).

McGee – who once owned Creation Records and discovered Oasis after signing a host of seminal bands in the late-80s and early-90s, including The Jesus And Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream – is now working on his new label 359 Music.

His club night has also been titled 359 and will feature performances from acts signed to the label as well as providing an outlet for local talent to test out their material. This Friday’s opening night will feature performances from Chris Grant and John Lennon McGullagh, both of whom are signed to McGee’s label, as well as The Huyton Minstrel and Keziah. DJ sets will come from Baby G, John Reed and McGee himself.

Explaining why he has chosen to launch the club night in Liverpool rather than London’s Shoreditch area, McGee said in a statement: “Liverpool is the most alive place for music in the UK so that’s why the 359 Club is happening there. In Shoreditch they care about their trousers and in Liverpool they care about their songs. Everything Shoreditch is – 359 isn’t.”

He then promised: “If you are a new band or artist and want to sign to 359 Music or want to play the night then bring a CD to the club… I will listen!”
