The singer performed the song as a tribute to Billie Joe Armstrong who is currently in rehab
Alanis Morissette has covered Green Day‘s 1994 single ‘Basket Case’ as a show of support for the band’s frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong.
The Canadian singer songwriter appeared on US talk show Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week and performed the track by the pop punk band. Click above to watch Morissette’s low-key version of the song.
Speaking to Billboard about Armstrong – who is currently in rehab for alcohol abuse after suffering an on-stage breakdown last week in Las Vegas – Morissette said: “We’re all figuring it out, so let’s just support the fragile artist. I’ve always been an advocate and supporter of artists and Billie Joe to me – he deserves to be bowed down to.”
She contined: “He’s been in this industry for a long time and so for him to experience the consequence of a system that kind of set it up for him to fail is a travesty to me.”
Alanis Morissette last month announced a short UK arena tour for later this year. The singer is touring in support of her new album ‘Havoc And Bright Lights’, which came out on in August. The 12-track record is the eighth studio album of her career.
The tour begins at London’s O2 Arena on November 28, before moving on to the Nottingham Capital FM Arena on November 29 and finally Liverpool Echo Arena on November 30.
