Alice Cooper: ‘Forget ‘The X Factor’, I want a rock version’

Singer sets out his dream for reality talent show called ‘Lunatic Fringe’

Alice Cooper has said that he wants to create a rock and roll version of The X Factor.

The singer, who has finished work on his latest album ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare’, has said that rock bands don’t have any “attitude” or “showmanship” anymore – and that he’d rather watch popstars like Lady Gaga perform.

Speaking to The Daily Star, he said: “Forget The X Factor, I’d like to see a TV show that discovers a real songwriting rock genius. I’d call it Lunatic Fringe. Bands don’t have attitude any more. They’re all beige and have no showmanship. My generation was the opposite. Striving for normality was never an option.”

Cooper, who claimed earlier this month that Elvis Presley had asked him to shoot him in the head the first time they met, added: “It’s infinitely more fun watching somebody like Lady Gaga. The same with Katy Perry. She’s got a great pop sense. Then you have Shakira, who is this bohemian animal.”

Cooper is set to headline the second stage at this year’s Download festival on Saturday night (June 11).
