Three of the band's tracks picked for use on TV
Three of Alt-J ‘s songs have been picked for us in a new series of BBC Two idents.
Instrumental versions of ‘Something Good’, ‘Intro’ and ‘Fitzpleasure’, all taken from the band’s Mercury Music Prize winning album ‘An Awesome Wave’, have started appearing before different programmes on BBC Two HD since March 26. As revealed earlier this year, the band will also collaborate with Bruce Goodison to compose the score for his new film Leave To Remain, which stars actor Toby Jones. The plot focuses around a group of teenagers escaping difficult pasts in other countries who are learning to survive in the UK – and fighting for the right to stay here. “Learning about these teenagers’ experiences for the first time, I struggled to contemplate how they could be cast away from everything familiar to them, plunged into an alien society and expected to build a life. I hope their stories will encourage us to reflect on the country we call home,” Goodison said in a statement.
The band were approached to do the project after the Goodison wrote the script for the film while listening to their debut LP ‘An Awesome Wave’. “I was immediately charmed by the soulful nature of their music. It felt like the perfect accompaniment to the emotional journey of my characters,” he said.
Alt-J were nominated for three Brit Awards at this year’s ceremony, including Best British Group, Best British Album and British Breakthrough.
