The multi-million selling folk band recently covered 'Tessellate' from the Mercury Prize nominated 'An Awesome Wave'

Alt-J have spoken out about the recent cover of their track ‘Tessellate’ by Mumford and Sons.

Talking at Austin City Limits festival over the weekend in Texas, the band’s keyboard player, Gus Unger-Hamilton told Fuse.tv that they’d “love to” return the favour and cover one of Mumford and Sons’ tracks.

He said: “If we get the opportunity, I’d love to… We’ve only just started doing covers in our set today. It’s like a mash-up. It’s the instrumental from ‘Still DRE’ by Dr Dre with the vocals from ‘Slow’ by Kylie Minogue. It works!”

Talking about Mumford and Sons’ ‘Tessellate’ cover – which you can hear below – bassist Gwil Sainsbury, said it was “so flattering”. He added: “It’s so amazing that a band who are that established even knows about us. It’s incredible.”

Unger-Hamilton also said of the new version of the track: “As they say on The X Factor, they really made it their own.”

Mumford and Sons covered the song from Alt-J’s acclaimed, Mercury Prize-nominated debut album, ‘An Awesome Wave’ on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge last month.
