Angel Haze on the Grammys: ‘Kendrick Lamar deserved Best Rap Album’

The rapper tells NME she's also a Macklemore fan but Kendrick made a 'solid' album

Angel Haze has said she thinks Kendrick Lamar deserved to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album at Sunday’s awards ceremony.

Macklemore beat favourite Kendrick Lamar to the rap prizes and later apologised to him via text, saying he thought Lamar should have won. Rapper Angel Haze has now told NME that she also thinks Lamar should have won the award for Best Rap Album, but added that her feelings on the subject were mixed, as she is a “diehard” Macklemore fan.

She told NME, in a video which you can view below: “If we’re speaking strictly down to who had the best rap album, it’s definitely Kendrick, definitely.” However, she added of the 2012 album ‘Good Kid, MAAD City’: “I have really double-sided views on that. I think that Kendrick Lamar made a solid, actual rap album… I laid off listening to it for so long because there was so much hype around it, then I listened to it and I still play it to this day. It’s an amazing album and I for sure thought that since as he was up for four Grammys he would obviously win Best Rap Album, but then Macklemore, I’ve followed his journey, I know his story and I know his music well and I’ve been a diehard fan of his since I was about 17. It’s hard to say it, but I do feel like Kendrick deserved the Best Rap Album.”

Following Macklemore’s own comments, Kendrick Lamar has said that Macklemore deserved to win his four Grammy Awards, for Best New Artist, Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. He commented: “It’s well deserved; he did what he did, man. He went out there and hustled and grinded. Everything happens for a reason; the universe comes back around, that’s how it go.”
