The 15-second clip features an atmospheric wash of synths and no vocals. It appears on Spotify under the album name ‘Reflektor’ and features the track title ‘9pm 9/9’ – which suggests that a more substantial slice of new music could be unveiled a week today on September 9. A Spotify spokesperson confirmed to NME that the track is genuine after it was posted on Dutch music blog Kicking The Habit
It was confirmed last week (August 27) that Arcade Fire are behind the viral ‘Reflektor’ advertising campaign spotted in numerous cities around the world in recent weeks. The campaign focused on a circular graphic containing letters that spell out the word ‘Reflektor’. All of the images were tied to the date September 9, leading to speculation the band could release new music, announce details of their album or make an appearance on that day next week.
The Canadian band have previously confirmed they will release a new album on October 29 by replying to a fan on Twitter who wrote “you’re my favourite”.
Earlier this year former LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy spoke to NME about the band’s new album, which he is helping to produce. Quizzed on what it sounds like, Murphy said: “It sounds like Arcade Fire in the way that only Arcade Fire sound like Arcade Fire, you know? It’s really fucking epic. Seriously. I mean, I feel at this point like I’m too close to it to really talk it up and do it justice, you know?”
Arcade Fire released their debut album ‘Funeral’ in 2004. This was followed by 2007’s ‘Neon Bible’ and 2010’s ‘The Suburbs’.
