Arctic Monkeys showcase ‘Suck It And See’ at iTunes Festival

Band perform seven new tracks at London Roundhouse

Arctic Monkeys brought their latest album ‘Suck It And See’ to the London Roundhouse tonight (July 6).

The band showcased seven tracks from their chart topping LP including ‘Brick By Brick’ and recent single ‘Don’t Sit Down ‘Cause I’ve Moved Your Chair’ at the month long iTunes Festival.

Other songs they performed from the record included ‘The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala’, ‘Suck It And See’, ‘Library Pictures’, ‘All My Own Stunts’ and ‘She’s Thunderstorms’.

Introducing the new material, frontman Alex Turner said of the latter track before returning to more familiar territory with ‘Teddy Picker’: “That was from the new Arctic Monkeys album ‘Suck It And See’. We’ll have some more of that later on but for now [this].”

The Sheffield four-piece only played two tracks – ‘Pretty Visitors’ and ‘Crying Lightning’ – from their 2009 album ‘Humbug’, instead for the most part concentrating on hits from their 2006 debut ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ and 2007 follow-up ‘Favourite Worst Nightmare’.

At one point, Turner appeared to tease the crowd with a brief snatch of the beginning of ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ before he launched into ‘The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala’.

“I wasn’t intentionally pulling your leg there by the way,” he said after the song. “It’s unfortunate it’s a B Major. This one on the other hand is an A,” he added as the Sheffield four-piece were greeted with huge cheers for ‘The View From The Afternoon’.

As ever the whole venue sang the intro to ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ near the end of the gig, leaving Turner to strum his guitar while the crowd sang the lyrics.

Later, support act Miles Kane joined the band onstage to play guitar during set-closer ‘505’.
