Frontman says he's eager to pen tunes on tour so he has a 'head start' for the next album
Arctic Monkeys‘ Alex Turner has said that he wants to start writing the band’s new album.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, the frontman said he was eager to start penning tunes on the follow-up to last year’s ‘Suck It And See’ so he could get a “head start” on the new record.
The band are currently in the middle of a lengthy stint across the USA and Canada as support to The Black Keys on their US arena tour and, when asked if he had been working on new material on the road, he replied: “A bit. I don’t try to write on the road. I might try to this time, just for a change. Usually, I get home and I realize it’s bad, so I’ve not done it in the past.”
We’ve messed around in sound checks, but I’m not gonna meet a deadline, and it’s not like I need to write, though I want a head start for the next time around.
Last month, Arctic Monkeys debuted their brand new single ‘R U Mine’, which you can listen to by scrolling up to the top of the page and clicking. The track, which didn’t feature on ‘Suck It And See’, was released as a single on March 2.
Last week (February 29) the band took home the Best Live Band award at this year’s NME Awards at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. To read all about the NME Awards and all the shenanigans from the night, pick up this week’s issue of NME, which is on UK newsstands or available digitally now.
