Arctic Monkeys shoot straight to Number One

Plus Hard-Fi top the albums countdown

Arctic Monkeys have shot straight to the top of the UK singles chart tonight with ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ (February 22).

The song is the second consecutive Number One for the band, whose ‘I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor’, also debuted in pole position in October of last year. Remarkably, that song is also still in the top 40 this week, appearing at Number 23 in the countdown.

Meanwhile ‘When The Sun Goes Down’ beat off competition from the other new entries including Notorious BIG’s ‘Nasty Girl’ with P Diddy and Nelly which charted at Two, Will Young’s ‘All Time Love’ which went in at Three and ‘Check On It’ from Beyonce featuring Slim Thug going in at Four.

Other new entries this week came from Hi-tack at Eight with ‘Say Say Say (Waiting 4 U)’, Son Of Dork at Ten with ‘Eddie’s Song’, Belle & Sebastian at 13 with ‘Funny Little Frog’, Test Icicles at 31 with ‘What’s Your Damage’, ¡Forward Russia at 36 with ‘Twelve’ and Sway going in at 38 with ‘Little Derek’.
