The band's Mark Hill on Craig David, Madonna, Britney and more...

ARTFUL DODGER, currently taking the sound of UK garage to the USA, are being linked with stars such as MADONNA and BRITNEY SPEARS. The band’s MARK HILL spoke exclusively to NME.COM to confirm which collaborations might happen…

Craig David

“We’ve just done a week in New York with Craig for his next album. There’s a load of tracks we’ve written but there’s one finished called ‘Love Saved The Day’. It sounds a bit more mature than his first album. I think the lyrics are about his experiences over the last 12 months. We’re trying to keep it as edgy as possible without losing the essence of the song.”

Melanie Blatt (ex-All Saints)

“We’re re-recording ‘Twenyfourseven’ with her for a single. Obviously she is looking to do a new project now that All Saints is finished and it seemed a good idea. She’s really up for it.”

*NSYNC

“It’s bizarre, I was in a meeting with Jive Records while I’ve been in the US and they’ve played me some of the *NSYNC stuff and it is very heavily influenced by two-step. But I find it really interesting that people are being influenced by it and I know they are big fans. I think it’s great and it does lend itself to their sound. But I think their album is pretty much done, although it might be fun to do a remix.”

Britney Spears

“It’s certainly something we’ve talked about and it might be fun. I’d be against the idea of trying to write a song that’s a Britney Spears song, but if we come up with something that’s our style and she can lend herself to it and maybe experiment with it, something might come out of it.”

Madonna

“I doubt it’s going to happen now. Originally she probably approached us as well as a load of other people to get remixes done and the only reason we didn’t do it was because it was on spec. At the time there wasn’t enough hours in the day to be doing spec mixes.”
