Atoms For Peace bandmates hit the waves to relax
Thom Yorke has revealed that his Atoms For Peace bandmate Flea is teaching him to surf.
Though an unlikely beach dweller, Yorke states that learning to be patient with his board in the ocean has helped him in his music career as well. Saying that he is still “pretty crap” at it, Yorke told The Observer how, “I used always to try to force things, in the studio. But it’s like, you can sit out there on a board for ages waiting for the right wave to come along. You can’t get angry about it. You know it will happen eventually and you start to understand the waiting itself might be part of it. Part of the fun.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Yorke reveals that he has been working on new music in the past few months. Talking about his new sounds, the Radiohead frontman did not clarify which of his various outlets the music was made for but did add it is sounding “dark”. “I’ve been working at home over the winter and everything I’ve been doing is dark as fuck. But we did a lot of this (Atoms For Peace album ‘Amok’) away in Los Angeles and it was sunnier. It was something to do in the afternoon and evening before you went out.”
Thom Yorke and producer Nigel Godrich launched Atoms For Peace album ‘Amok’ in London on Friday night (February 22) with a one-off appearance at Oval Space in East London.
Atoms For Peace have also announced plans to play two European festivals this summer and will be playing their first official dates as a band at Exit festival in Serbia (July 10-14) and Melt! Festival in Germany (July 19-21).
