Avenged Sevenfold: ‘We’re going to make a big statement at Download’

Metallers set for first UK festival since the death of their drummer

Avenged Sevenfold have said they plan to make a “big statement” during their set at Download Festival tonight (June 11).

The band play before headliners System Of A Down in what will be their first UK festival show since their drummer Jimmy ‘The Rev’ Sullivan passed away.

Speaking to Kerrang!, singer M Shadows said of the band’s appearance at Download: “We’re ready to make a big statement to the UK. It’ll be a beast of a set with epic shit going on.”

The band also spoke about how they’re coping without Sullivan, with Shadows adding: “It’s tough. The guy was such a big part of our lives. It’s like a hole we’ll never fill. Everything seems a little bit darker and a little bit number.”

The band added that their new drummer Arin Ilejay was settling in well and that he was “a good fit for the band right now.”

Avenged Sevenfold play the Main Stage at Download at 7.15pm (BST) tonight.
