BBC Radio 1 have announced a new weekend schedule, with Maya Jama joining their roster of DJs.
The station has reinvigorated its line-up for the weekends as it seeks to provide listeners with a fresh schedule which includes, as controller Ben Cooper says, “the next generation of superstars”.
Jama, who has previously been a radio host on Rinse FM and presented music programmes for MTV, 4Music and ITV, will formally join Radio 1 to present Greatest Hits on Saturday mornings. The former host of that show, Matt Edmondson, will now helm the afternoon slot, where he’ll be joined by a different celebrity co-host every week.
Jordan North will present Greatest Hits on Sunday mornings, while Alice Levine will now co-host Weekend Breakfast with Dev. The BBC have also confirmed that Alice and Dev will earn the same salary, as will Jama and North.
