‘I’m a rock ‘n’ roll star at 11.30am,’ says Liam Gallagher during secret Beady Eye Glastonbury set

Frontman plays 'Rock 'N' Roll Star' for sons Lennon and Gene

Beady Eye played an unbilled, earlybird set at this year’s Glastonbury festival.

The show took place on the Other Stage at 11am today (June 28) as the festival officially got underway.

Frontman Liam Gallagher dropped a big hint about the show on Twitter on June 26, writing “11am Friday – BE there or BE square..LG”, and a sizeable crowd had gathered to see the band’s performance. Playing a set heavy on material from their latest album ‘BE’, they began with ‘Flick Of The Finger’, one of a few songs to employ trumpets and saxophones in an effort to recreate the album’s psychedelic sound. The band also played two Oasis songs: ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ and ‘Morning Glory’.

During ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’, Gallagher said “Tonight, I’m a rock ‘n’ roll star – at 11.30 in the fucking morning!” He had introduced the song as being “for Lennon and Gene,” his sons, and told the crowd, “You’re welcome,” after the track. The band closed with their debut single, ‘Bring The Light’. Gallagher told the crowd afterwards: “I’ve given you a headache; you’ve been amazing – but not as good as us.”

The band’s appearance at the festival is something of a contradiction given that Gallagher recently said he would never play Glastonbury again, telling XFM, “Never, ever doing that thing ever again because it’s a nightmare.”

Beady Eye played:

‘Flick Of The Finger’
‘Four Letter Word’
‘Soul Love’
‘Second Bite Of The Apple’
‘Iz Rite’
‘Shine A Light’
‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’
‘I’m Just Saying’
‘Morning Glory’
‘The Roller’
‘Bring The Light’
