The US artist recently confirmed plans for a new record in an interview with Los Angeles based radio station Alt 98.7, stating that he is working on a new album. In the interview, he described the LP as a “hybrid” of garage rock and dance different to his Grammy award winning record ‘Morning Phase’.
Beck also called the album the “opposite” of his sedate 2014 release ‘Morning Phase’ and described it as “a pretty diverse group of songs that fit together.” Work on the record has been underway for a couple of years. “It started out as a heavy garage rock thing and became much more of a dance — some kind of hybrid,” he said of the sound of the album.
‘Morning Phase’ was recently certified silver in the UK having sold over 60,000 copies.
The album, Beck’s 12th full-length release, was awarded a Grammy for ‘Album of the Year’ at this year’s ceremony. The win caused controversy when Kanye West mock-interrupted him onstage, referencing his infamous interruption of Taylor Swift in 2009. After the awards West said that Beck should “respect artistry” and hand the award over to Beyoncé.
