Jarvis Cocker and Jack Black to join Beck for ‘Song Reader’ show

Jenny Lewis, Childish Gambino and Van Dyke Parks will also appear at the Los Angeles event

Jarvis Cocker and Jack Black are among the artists set to join Beck for a live rendition of his ‘Song Reader’ sheet music release.

The show will take place on November 24 at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and Jenny Lewis, Childish Gambino, Van Dyke Parks and John C. Reilly will also perform, whilst the show will be conducted by Beck’s father, David Campbell, reports Rolling Stone.

Beck hosted a similar event event in London over the summer, where he was again joined by Cocker as well as Franz Ferdinand, Beth Orton, Charlotte Gainsbourg and The Mighty Boosh to perform songs from the 2012 release.

Beck recently announced plans to release his new album ‘Morning Phase’ in February 2014. The US singer-songwriter has signed a new deal with Capitol Records and will release his 12th album with the label early next year. ‘Morning Phase’ is Beck’s first album in six years, coming after ‘Modern Guilt’ in 2008. The album is described as being a “companion piece” to the largely acoustic ‘Sea Change’, released in 2002, and will include a number of guest stars.

Confirmed names set to appear on ‘Morning Phase’ include Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Joey Waronker, Smokey Hormel, Roger Joseph Manning Jr, and Jason Falkner. A press release comparing the album to ‘Sea Change’ discusses how it “harkens back to the stunning harmonies, songcraft and staggering emotional impact of that record, while surging forward with infectious optimism”.
