Ben Howard: ‘I hope the Brits hasn’t ruined anything’

Award winner says he was happy when 'Who the fuck is Ben Howard?' started trending on Twitter

Brit Award winner Ben Howard has said that he hopes he can still walk around unnoticed, following his recent high-profile success.

Howard, who took home the awards for Best Male Solo and British Breakthrough Act at last week’s ceremony, has spoken out about the fact that despite being a platinum selling artist many people did not know who he was on the night and were surprised to see him head home with two awards. “I got told that ‘Who the fuck is Ben Howard?’ was trending on Twitter,” Howard told The Sun. “I like the idea of it. I was never in music to make it to award shows. I shit myself when the paparazzi were taking photos. It was bizarre but the nice thing was most of the photographers were still like, ‘Who is this guy?’.”

However, the singer-songwriter has considered that his anonymity may be gone now he has appeared on prime time TV and in every tabloid newspaper. “I hope the Brits hasn’t ruined anything. I may have shot myself in the foot. I have a platinum-selling record but I can walk around fine.”

Howard also echoed criticisms of the ceremony, admitting it was a “tame” night and that One Direction were not popular in the room. “It was definitely a pretty tame award show. There weren’t many rock groups there. You heard this audible groan around the hall when One Direction were up for Best Group.”

Following his Brit Award success Ben Howard’s album sales were boosted a huge 4,600 percent on a leading online retailer. Howard will celebrate his recent success when he headlines the Green Man festival this Summer.
